It is sometimes called \u2018granuloma telangiectaticum\u2019, or lobular capillary angioma. The surface has a raspberry-like or raw minced meat color in appearance. The following factors have been identified as having a possible role to play in their development:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Trauma:<\/strong>\u00a0some cases develop at the site of a recent minor injury, such as a pinprick.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Infection:<\/strong>\u00a0Staphylococcus aureus is frequently present in the lesion<\/li>\n<li><strong>Hormonal influences:<\/strong>\u00a0they occur in up to 5% of pregnancies and are rarely associated with oral contraceptives.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drug-induced:<\/strong>\u00a0multiple lesions sometimes develop in patients on systemic retinoids (acitretin or isotretinoin) or protease inhibitors<\/li>\n<li><strong>Viral infection<\/strong>\u00a0is possible but not proven<\/li>\n<li>Underlying microscopic\u00a0<strong>blood vessel malformations<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;]<h2 class=\"box-header\">What Are the Signs &amp; Symptoms?<\/h2>[vc_column_text el_position=&#8221;last&#8221;]Lesions usually first appear as a small pinhead-sized red, brownish-red or blue-black spot that grows rapidly over a period of a few days to weeks to anywhere between 2mm and 2cm in diameter. Occasionally they may reach up to 5cm. They bleed easily and may ulcerate and form crusted sores. Usually a single lesion is present but in rare cases groups of multiple lesions may develop.<\/p>\n<p>Lesions most frequently appear on the head, neck, upper trunk and hands (especially fingers) and feet. The pregnancy variant of pyogenic granuloma most often occurs on the mucosal surfaces inside the mouth.<\/p>\n<p>The condition is usually painless with most patients mainly complaining of recurrent bleeding from the lesion.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;70px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;]<h2 class=\"box-header\">Who gets pyogenic granuloma?<\/h2>[vc_column_text el_position=&#8221;last&#8221;]Pyogenic Granuloma affects people of all races. In general, women are affected more often than men because of the link with pregnancy. It rarely occurs in children less than 6 months old but is common in children and young adults.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;]<h2 class=\"box-header\">How is Pyogenic Granuloma Diagnosed?<\/h2>[vc_column_text el_position=&#8221;last&#8221;]Pyogenic Granuloma is usually diagnosed clinically because of typical time course and appearance and they are usually removed surgically. Histology is essential to confirm the diagnosis, and to rule out a form of skin cancer such as amelanotic (non-pigmented) melanoma. A lobular collection of blood vessels within inflamed tissue is typical of Pyogenic Granuloma[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_separator el_position=&#8221;first last&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;70px&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column]<h2 class=\"box-header\">What Treatment is Available for Pyogenic Granuloma?<\/h2>[vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pyogenic granulomas in pregnant women may go away on their own after delivery so waiting is the best strategy in these cases. If due to a drug, they usually disappear when the drug is stopped.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pyogenic granulomas in other cases tend to persist.
